Nicolae was so excited, too full of energy to properly sleep the night before. His mommy was taking him and Vladimir on an adventure! While he couldn’t remember exactly where Izaya had told him they were going, it was still a chance to see a whole other city. A whole city! And with his favorite dragon too! The young Romanian couldn’t help but start to bounce a few times on his bed with a happy squeal, completely making a mess out of his clean sheets, before scurrying over to his closet to get dressed.
For a moment he wondered why his papa wasn’t going with them today, but his caretaker had mentioned something about ‘work’ and ‘an important case for Ikebukuro’. Nicolae didn’t know exactly what his adopted parents did for a living exactly, though both had said that it was nothing to worry about – and he was too young to know in the first place. Did that mean it was dangerous? He paused for a moment, his lips pursing in thought, and shook his head at himself. There was no way that Izaya and Shizuo didn’t know what they were doing…right?
Pushing back the sudden fear engulfing him that even they might leave him behind, Nicolae quickly clothed himself and bounced down the stairs, his trusty dragon perched on his head. A Romanian song he had heard on the radio came unbidden to his lips, and while hopelessly out of tune (not that he knew how to correctly carry a note), the lyrics soon cheered him up as he reached the downstairs.
“Come on, Vladimir, let’s go!” he hissed towards his dragon in a stage whisper, crouching low to peer through the railing of the stairs. Without seeing a trace of his chosen prey, Nicolae carefully crept down to the floor and lowered his body to inch along the wall. “Where do you think he is…?” Pressing himself against the nearest surface, the boy peeked around the edge and grinned in triumph.
“Count down from five…four…three…two…one…go!” Nicolae leapt out of his hiding place, not noticing that his pet dragon fell off his head and onto the floor from the sudden movement, and pounced on Izaya’s leg to attach himself there. He was giving the black-haired man a cheeky grin as he tightened his grip. “I got you, mommy!”
