What kind of business? Am I supposed to doing something else? Mommy says I'm too young to have a job or anything 'cause I'm only 6! I like to just play with my dragons and wait for mommy to come home!

Okay! I'll tell you a great story about the Dragon Master and his quest to find the treasure!

Nicolae was born into the highly influential and wealthy Dragomir family, a clan of powerful vampires whose origin could be traced back to before the days of the Renaissance. His family was the most prominent when it came to black magic, and were considered by many to be the experts of the ancient practice, having gained control of it when the family was first formed. From the time he was born, Nicolae was constantly exposed to this magic, and he was completely fascinated by it.

Being the youngest member of the family by several decades, Nicolae often followed the older vampires around the house and onto the grounds of their property as soon as he could walk. But he was more often than not alone, as they did not have the time to entertain a child with endless curiosity and strange questions. He could only find solace in a red and gold dragon, affectionately named Vladimir, which had been a gift from his parents when he was born.

The dragon became his utmost prized possession and his loyal playmate, remaining a constant presence in the long days that Nicolae would spend shut inside with nothing to do. The young Dragomir spun tales of princesses and treasures and evil knights, where he would save the day with his trusty companion, the King of the Sky. His imagination was vivid, untamed even within the old walls of the manor and the expectations that had been laid on him from the time he was born.

Influenced by the strong culture of his family and the development of an overactive imagination – one that he kept alive by asking for legends passed down through the generations continuously and leafing through the thick books in the family’s collection, to trace his fingers over the monochrome illustrations there – Nicolae took on a peculiar picture of the world, even when he was so young, which set him apart from the traditionally-minded vampires. His thought process wasn’t understood, no matter how hard he tried to describe it.

Though he wasn’t close to the age of when he was expected to become the next heir of the Dragomir family, Nicolae was still taught the necessities of the role. Having inherited the sharp mind that their clan was known for, he picked up the lessons easily and tried as best he could to apply them when he was supposed to. But he was still a child, and the knowledge that he learned would often slip out of his head as he delved into the fantasy stories that he wove himself into. In this way, he was happy.

But it was soon after his fifth birthday that everything changed. Nicolae’s parents were murdered right in front of him, for refusing to give any sort of information for the treasure that their family had collected over many generations. Even hidden as he was underneath a heavy cabinet, he saw everything. The boy remained curled up in his hiding spot for hours, completely terrified and feeling alone.

It was then that he met Izaya, who would become his surrogate ‘mother’. Nicolae grew attached to the older man almost instantly when he was found a few hours later, wanting badly to have some form of human contact. The presence of the other was comforting to him, especially in the wake of his nightmares that plagued him for months afterward. All he remembers from that day is the fuzzy recollection of a cross, and the feeling of terror.

Soon enough he turned six, and he was happy again. Nicolae felt warm and secure with Izaya, but he longs to find out why his parents were killed, and to find the person responsible for doing so. For someone so young, his sense of revenge is uncanny. He is angry and upset, especially since he remembers only tiny details of what happened. He hasn’t forgotten his birth parents, but he is glad to have a ‘mommy’ and ‘papa’ to look after him. They’ve become his new family.

Now all he had to do was get them together.

"Well, that's interesting. Now we'll need a personality profile for you. If you'll describe yourself for me, that'd be great."[/i]

Nicolae’s eccentricity is the first thing that you notice when first meeting him. He may only be six years old and considered far too young to understand the world, but he has a peculiar way of thinking and speaking that is unusual for his age. It is often difficult to tell where exactly his mind is, as most of what he says and does could be complete nonsense and silly – but he is still a child, and he can be surprisingly simplistic in his behavior. This may make him seem far younger than he appears, but he is easy to please, and it doesn’t take too long for him to grow to like someone. He is a dreamer, with a vivid imagination, and if asked he will spin a fantastic tale about your future.

He is fascinated by the stories of folklore, especially those with dragons and vampires, wanting to hear them constantly and act them out or creating his own tales. One could say that he is almost obsessed. Nicolae possesses an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and an endless pool of curiosity, and at times it can become overwhelming, as he must know everything about the subject that he becomes fixated on. His focus when it comes to such subjects is uncanny, entirely submerged within the words. He is rather delusional, firmly believing in these tales as if they had actually happened and he himself was a part of it, and becomes rather short-tempered and irrational if you try to convince him otherwise. He is a very stubborn child, wanting to stay among the dragons and knights.

Despite this, Nicolae is rather mature for his age, due to the strict expectations that his family had set up. He knows how to behave, and for the most part he does not resort to overly childish tendencies (though there are times when it is called for). Since his introduction into the human world, he has since enjoyed playing harmless pranks, his mischievous side emerging – either by dropping down onto someone’s head, or mixing things together just to see a reaction. His sense of humor never seems to change, and the same jokes still make him laugh. He’s extremely fascinated with humans, often watching them as he tries to figure out their way of thinking. But they confuse him even still; Nicolae thinks they make things far too complicated, seeing the world in black and white.

Because of this mindset, he holds grudges for a very long time for any sort of transgression. Nicolae knows that he will never forgive that murderer who killed his parents, determined to do the same to that man; even if that distorts his view of simplicity. There is a sense of cruelty and aggression in his personality, which becomes more prominent if provoked – but his anger is similar to a firecracker; flares hot and bright for a few moments before fizzling into nothing. He is the odd one out among vampires, since he has a more emotional capacity than most of his species. From spending time with humans, he has become more attuned to different sensations.

Nicolae is fiercely competitive and overly eager to learn all he can, wanting to be just like his mommy and papa. He has a sharp mind, and picks up on things quickly; which includes the antics of his adopted parents. He is always amused when he sees Shizuo chasing Izaya through the streets, thinking it to be a game of some sort. But he does worry that they’ll get hurt, and nothing makes him happier than to see that they’re all right when they come back to him. He loves them with everything he has, and is unwilling to let go.

"Hmm... You don't match the profile we're looking for. How about a few things that irk you?"[/i]

Does that mean what makes you really, really mad? Mommy says I should turn it back on them!

& The sun // sunscreen // being outside -- Nicolae has never liked being outside; for too long at least. It's his vampiric nature that prevents him from completely enjoying the sun, as he gets burned rather easily and becomes sick if he stays out too long. Needless to say, he absolutely hates feeling limited.

& Getting sick // medicine -- Just like any other kid, he despises getting sick, as it comes with having to take medicine. He doesn't get sick as much as other children his age, his immune system preventing most diseases, but the taste of medicine is always bitter to him. It lingers on his tongue.

& Stuffy clothing -- Why should he have to wear a suit anyway? It's not like he'll be going to formal events, as he had when his clan was still alive. He's just glad Izaya doesn't make him wear formal things, since he finds it way too stuffy.

& Vladimir getting taken away -- Vladimir is his companion, his friend, and confident. And having the dragon taken from him sparks Nicolae's irritation, and he'll sooner sulk in a corner than do what you wanted him to do. If Vladimir is in his grasp, he'll do anything.

& Hot weather -- It is similar to his dislike of the sun; hot weather makes him irritable, and he'd much rather be inside, with cool air. It makes him dizzy at times, and his temper short. Though if his mommy and papa are outside, then he'll venture out.

& Mommy and papa fighting -- Nicolae doesn't like seeing his adopted parents in that way, as he is used to their usual antics of chasing each other through the city. He doesn't understand their behavior sometimes, but he does know that he wants them to stop fighting.

& Overly sour and sweet things -- Otherwise known as extreme tastes. This is not something Nicolae is fond of, as he has sensitive taste buds. He'll try it once, and if it's too much for him, he will never touch it again.

& Smoke -- He watches his papa sometimes, and the stuff that he sticks in his mouth has smelly smoke. Nicolae doesn't like to linger around Shizuo right after he smokes, as the strong scent doesn't mingle well with his senses.

& Being a kid -- Since Nicolae was so young, he doesn't like being unable to fend for himself. He can't reach the cabinets, he can't stand out from a crowd, he can't be by himself. That's not to say he doesn't enjoy his childhood; he just wants to be older and prove himself.

& Nightmares -- Flashes of red and gold haunt his dreams, and the feeling of terror lingers even after he wakes up. As far as Nicolae knows, these are only nightmares...but he doesn't know where they come from. He thinks it's from the day that he found himself entirely alone, but he's not sure, and he's half afraid to ask Izaya.

"So, that's what you don't like. How about what you do like?"[/i]

& Old books // History -- Nicolae has always been fascinated and intrigued by previous centuries, and he is always looking for more and more books on the subject. He can stay within those pages for hours, and spout what he has learned to anyone who asks.

& Pranks -- The mischievousness that he has is influenced mostly by Izaya, and he is very amused with the reactions from people he has pulled a prank on. He does harmless pranks, but it never fails to entertain him for hours. Such as the dropping down on people's heads one. He especially loves doing that to Shizuo.

& Dragons // Bats -- As dragons are the symbol of his family, and bats are a constant companion for a vampire, Nicolae loves both of the creatures. He doesn't even know why he loves them so much; he keeps them close either way, and refuses to part with them.

& Black magic -- Magic is part of him, his culture, and his life; he can't imagine a world without it. The magic influences his actions and his personality, and he can't be himself without it. He loves being able to feel this power at his fingertips, though the magic that he possesses is still wild and untrained.

& High places -- Even Nicolae can't say why he enjoys being so high. He thinks it's because he loves being able to see things at a vantage point, and being able to just observes the world around him. This also includes sitting on his mommy's or papa's shoulders.

& Toys -- What kid doesn't enjoy playing with toys? Nicolae is certainly no exception to this, though that usually means he plays with dragons and bats and stuffed vampires. He is attracted to the more dark playtoys.

& Mommy and papa -- He loves his adopted parents with all of his being, and never wants to let go of them ever. They are the best thing that has ever happened to him in his short life, and Nicolae loves having a family again.

& Sweets -- He's always had a sweet tooth, and it has expanded upon meeting Shizuo. Thanks to his papa, he has a steady supply of sweets that are given to him on a daily basis.

& Learning -- Nicolae is smart for his age, and he is able to pick up on any given subject easily. Give him enough time to read all that he can, and he'll surprise you with the amount of knowledge that he has acquired.

& His vampire heritage -- It is a strength for him, as it makes his body more durable than a simple human's. Nicolae rarely, if ever, gets sick, and he has not been injured (at least severely). His mind is sharp and his instincts quick, and he holds the strength of humans twice his age.

& Imagination -- He has always had a very vivid imagination, one that took him to faraway lands and to the sky to keep himself entertained when he was alone at his family's manor. It is strong enough to remain unshaken, and he is quite confident in his abilities.

& Eccentricity -- Even with his strange behavior, Nicolae's eccentricity defines him. That is what makes him him. There is no changing that, and it is one of his strongest points. Once you're around him enough, you'll be used to his odd mindset.

& Magic -- Magic is Nicolae's strongest weapon. While there are times where he can't control it completely, it is still his greatest chance of defense. He loves magic, and he can feel it thrumming through his body in a way that excites him when he calls it forth. It is fascinating to him.

"And what will we have to worry about?"[/i]

& His vampire heritage -- As there are advantages for having vampirism, there are also several disadvantages. For one, Nicolae cannot be out in the sunlight; at least for very long. Otherwise he gets burned easily, and it heals slowly while his body tries to recuperate. There is also the fact that religion is a taboo subject. He is unable to cross any sort of holy ground, and touching any artifact burns him instantly.

& The future -- This is a terrifying subject for him, as Nicolae does not know what there is waiting for him. He doesn't like not knowing, and while he tries to face it with as much bravery as he can, it is the one thing that scares him the most.

& Dragons -- His biggest weakness. If you want Nicolae to do something for you, anything, bribe him with a stuffed dragon. Doesn't matter what size, shape, color, or form. His love for dragons runs deep enough that he'll do anything to get one.

& Nightmares -- The bad dreams that he has continuously had since he was found by Izaya have not lessened; they plague him with worry and insomnia, and there are times where he is unable to sleep for days. He can't even describe what he was dreaming about, as all he remembers is something flashing gold...and red.

& Spells -- This part of magic is one thing that Nicolae can't seem to gain control of quite yet. He is very young, but at his age it was expected of him to know several dozen spells. He has only mastered about five, and it frustrates him. Most of the time the spells go haywire, and he is left to figure out why. As much as he loves magic, it confuses him.

"Hmm... So, we've heard that you're close to someone. Or, trying to get close to them anyways. Anyone you're interested in?"[/i]

Well...I'm close to mommy and papa. And there's this nice girl I like to play with! But I don't think there's anyone...

For obvious reasons, Nicolae will not be getting together with anyone (he's only 6).

& Massive collection of hats -- Nicolae is a collector of hats. Any kind of hats; big, small, feathery. You name it. This expands to his need to collect seemingly random things, but he describes it as something very important! If he shows you his collection, that means he trusts you.

& Extreme tastes -- Despite having sensitive taste buds, he is actually quite fond of finding tastes that overwhelm his senses. Perhaps not the sour food that his mommy likes, but he loves sushi. And sweets. And anything with a strong taste. He has tasted blood before, but he usually takes that from tiny birds that he catches (their blood sustains his body). His sense of taste is as eccentric as his personality.

& Playing the part of a vampire -- Nicolae finds it rather funny to see people's reactions to when he jumps down on their head, and pretend to suck blood from their neck. He's a vampire, yes, and he has a silly sense of humor when it comes to scaring humans. Thankfully he is not old enough yet to need blood to keep himself completely alive.

& Talks about himself in third person -- He doesn't know when this habit first started, but then Nicolae was talking about himself in the third person. While his family tried to stamp it out, his mommy seemed to enjoy listening to him so he just continued to talk in that way. He doesn't see anything wrong with it, and won't understand if you try to correct him.

"That's everything that I need. Oh, as a formality, we do require a sample."[/i]

Nicolae was spread out on the floor, surrounded by countless papers filled with scribbles of color and many shades of crayons to keep himself entertained. He was frowning at the sheet in front of him, contemplating on what to draw. Having drawn many dragons already, the young vampire was at a loss for what to do next. His gaze slid to his toy companion, chewing his lip. “What do you think, Vladimir?” he asked curiously. “What should I draw?”

Nodding as if the dragon had answered, Nicolae tapped a crayon on the tip of his nose. “I could draw something for mommy… oh! I know! I’ll draw mommy and papa together!” Delighted with this idea, he set to work on creating the profiles of the two. Izaya, otherwise known as mommy to the boy, was a lanky figure with spiky black hair and fierce red eyes. Shizuo, or papa, was a bulky man with huge blue glasses. Their hands were linked, and Nicolae concentrated on tracing a pink heart around them, his tongue poking out between his lips.

“There!” The Romanian boy made a noise of triumph when he finished, crimson eyes sparkling as he held up the drawing to show off to his dragon. “Mommy and papa!” He giggled, pleased with himself as he hopped onto his feet to scurry into the kitchen and stuck it to the fridge as artfully as he could with a huge magnet of a dog – all so Izaya could see it whenever he arrived home, if he waited patiently enough.

Nicolae bounced back to the outer room where he had left his supplies, and immediately scribbled out a letter to his mommy in bright blue crayon. It was along the lines of hoping that the older man had had a good day, and he wasn’t too hurt when papa threw stuff at him, and a wish to help him make dinner that night. He was grinning when he finished signing his name onto the paper (it was a sloppy signature, but something he was proud of), excited at the thought of giving it to his guardian.

Hearing the lock turn in the front door, Nicolae jumped to his feet again and ran to the door as it opened. He jumped forward to wrap himself tightly around his mommy’s legs with a happy squeal. “Mommy!”
